Rental charges

For certain types of housing, such as flats or subdivided houses, you will need to pay rental charges (charges locatives) in addition to rent.

Also called recoverable costs or provisions for charges, rental charges cover annual expenses paid in advance by the property owner. Included are the following:

  • Services for common areas, such as water, energy, and collective heating; lift maintenance and repair; and upkeep of green spaces
  • Taxes related to household waste collection (excluding bulky items), street sweeping, and sanitation
  • Maintenance of equipment in individual rental units, such as heating systems, boilers, air conditioners, and chimneys

In addition to these rental charges, you will need to budget for individual utilities: electricity, water, internet, and phone services.
