Rigorously ethical approaches

In all of its work, INRAE is committed to applying a code of ethical practices rooted in responsibility, impartiality, integrity, dignity, and probity.

INRAE’s mission is twofold. First, INRAE produces and disseminates knowledge to help solve major societal challenges related to food, agriculture, the environment, and sustainable development. Second, the institute utilises its expertise to serve the common good and inform public policies.

To ensure its ethical principles are respected, INRAE relies on several key tools:

• The Joint Ethics Advisory Committee brings together representatives from four French research establishments (INRAE, CIRAD, IFREMER, and IRD) to examine the major ethical issues arising in their research
• The Delegation of Ethics, Scientific Integrity, and Code of Conduct in Research Projects ensures the institute’s principals are followed; the delegation reports directly to INRAE’s Chair and CEO. 
• INRAE’s scientific policy document details the institute’s commitment to scientific integrity
• The Ethics Charter for Research Professionals describes the code of conduct that all INRAE personnel are expected to follow
