Applying for a visa
You are coming from outside the EU to work at INRAE. For any type of visa, you must plan on applying 3–6 months before departure.
Where to apply
You can apply for a visa at the following locations:
- French embassies and/or consulates in your home country; French consular services across the world are listed on the website Ambassades et consulats français à l’étranger – Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères (in French)
- Online via France-Visas using the visa wizard (if available for your home country)
The application
Your visa application must include all the supporting documents that are listed on the information sheet for your visa category. Details can be found on the official website for French consular services in your home country. The application fee must be paid at the moment of submission and varies depending on visa type.
As part of the application, you must document your personal and professional situation. Required documents differ among countries; you can find out more by using the visa wizard available at France-Visas.
Depending on your situation, you may be required to provide certain supporting documents (e.g., diplomas/degrees, proof of employment) in the form of certified French or English translations.
If you are coming to France to work at INRAE, your host research unit will provide you with documents showing the reasons, length, and conditions of your stay. These documents may include the following:
- Letter of invitation describing your stay
- Research hosting agreement
- Proof of employment if you have been hired for a permanent or contractual position
- Request for a work permit
- Internship agreement
