Advancing your career
As a permanent employee, you will receive INRAE support to advance your career and develop your skills.
Career development
At INRAE, there are many opportunities for career advancement:
- Advancement via seniority is the typical form of advancement—you automatically move up through pay levels and grades the longer you are at INRAE.
- A promotion in grade or corps can be obtained if you participate in an annual career advancement campaign and your supervisor supports your application. You can also participate in an internal or external open competition.
Internal occupational mobility
After a few years at INRAE, you might wish to change your research topic, position, work location, and/or career path.
The institute annually puts forward opportunities for internal occupational mobility. INRAE can thus continue to develop and meet its research needs while encouraging staff to hone new skills and pursue new aspirations. There are four main types of mobility programmes:
- Annual occupational mobility campaign
- Occupational mobility for the jobs of the future
- One-time occupational mobility
- Urgent occupational mobility for personal reasons
You will be kept abreast of the institute’s different mobility options and job offers.
Career counselling
Anyone working at INRAE can take advantage of the institute’s career counselling services, which are available in both French and English. INRAE career counsellors provide confidential and customised support tailored to your specific situation and needs, including career diagnostics, professional assessments, skills assessments, coaching, and project development. Each research centre offers walk-in and scheduled appointments with career counsellors year round, and you can take advantage of these services as soon as you arrive at INRAE.
Training
As a permanent researcher at INRAE, you can benefit from a range of training opportunities, with the approval of your supervisor. There is something for everyone: for example, you can learn how to transition more smoothly into your new job, acquire leadership skills, sign up for courses that teach scientists new approaches or technical skills, or take an in-person or remote training course.
Each research centre has teams whose job is to help their fellow employees access further training. Do not hesitate to reach out to them.
