Our contractual employees
INRAE hires certain employees on fixed-term contracts. In French, these staff members are referred to as personnels contractuels or agents contractuels. Others are hired on permanent contracts after having passed a competitive civil service exam. They are referred to as agents titulaires.
Status
INRAE is a publicly funded institution under the dual aegis of the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. Consequently, contractual employment at the institute is governed by public law, not private law.
A recipient of the European Commission’s Human Resources Excellence in Research Award, INRAE has adopted an internal charter specifically focused on contractual employment. It is founded on four key values:
- Promoting mutual engagement and sharing
- Espousing transparent hiring practices
- Encouraging employees to build professional relationships and skills
- Providing end-of-contract support to boost employability
Remuneration
INRAE calculates the salaries of contractual employees based on their job type and professional experience. Your baseline salary is essentially determined by your job corps, grade, and pay level. Your pay may be topped up if you furnish a specific type of expertise or take on managerial responsibilities.
There are ways to get information about the salary for a given job opportunity:
- You can reach out to the contact person mentioned in the job announcement prior to applying
- You can request more information during your job interview
- Before officially accepting a job offer, you can talk to the research unit director or research centre HR staff
INRAE pays its employees at the end of the month via direct deposit.
